Survey of Medical Cannabis Manufacturers

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has asked the Humboldt Institute for Interdiscplinary Marijuana Research to conduct a short survey of medical cannabis manufacturers to get an understanding of manufacturing methods and general economic activity.  CDPH is not capturing any information that would indicate who is submitting this information. This survey will provide valuable insights for CDPH makers in their efforts to craft sensible and timely cannabis regulations for manufacturers.

Consent Statement

This is a research study about medical cannabis manufacturing sales and expenses. This study was developed by Drs. Erick Eschker, Fred Krissman, Josh Meisel, and Tony Silvaggio of the Humboldt Institute for Interdisciplinary Marijuana Research at Humboldt State University. You may contact them at hiimr@humboldt.edu or 707-826-4446.

Participant Role
Your part in this study involves responding to an online survey questionnaire containing questions about your product sales, business expenses and processes, workforce size and payroll, and taxes paid. In responding to the survey questionnaire, you will have the opportunity to share information about your business. You understand that the questionnaire will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Risks and Benefits
You understand that there are important benefits associated with participating in this study. You will have the opportunity to share your product manufacturing experiences which will be used to develop a Standardized Regulatory Impact Assessment (SRIA). We are producing the SRIA to assess the economic impact of California Department of Public Health manufacturing regulations.
You also understand that you are being asked to provide information about a business product that is legal in California while remaining illegal according to the federal government. Given the ambiguous legality of medical cannabis manufacturing in the United States,
we are using an online survey tool that will NOT track your computer IP address. While we do not know to whom the survey invitation is sent, you are invited to provide business contact information for follow up survey purposes.
Voluntary Participation
You understand that the investigators, Drs. Erick Eschker, Fred Krissman, Josh Meisel, and Tony Silvaggio can be contacted at any time to answer any questions you may have concerning the investigation or the procedures. You also understand that your participation in any study is entirely voluntary and that you may decline to enter this study or may withdraw from it at any time without jeopardy. You understand that the investigator may terminate your participation in the study at any time.

Anonymity and Confidentiality
Your individual privacy will be maintained in all written materials resulting from this study. Since we are not recording your computer IP address and there will be no way to link your business to your individual responses, your participation will be anonymous. If you choose to provide business contact information, however, your business name and location will remain confidential.
